St. George's Day 2007

We raised our flags for St.George and England and also went to the Bridgwater Hall in Manchester to celebrate a St George's Day Extravaganza with the band of the Royal Marines  it was fantastic.  See attached pictures.
See you in London
 Jan Mashlan

Good Morning,
I awoke early and went to my allotment where I Planted another Large Flag,so all could see from a distance.
                          Best Wishes
                                                 Derek.

Hi,
to spread the word, I held a St.George's Day bash at mine on Saturday (with the aid of one of your party packs), partied from 12 noon to 3am, I also circulated the info sheets on the white dragon history, which went down well. Also got a few of the neighbours involved, which will hopefully get them more aware of actively being English, as opposed to just playing lip service to it.
And last night we were at out local - The Millstone in Newton-Le-Willows (WA12) for a St.George's Day Party, which I was happy to see was frequented by quite a few youngsters, so at least the message is getting through somewhere.
Something that did annoy me yesterday, was - Google, for St.Patrick's & St.David's they adorned their site with Shamrocks & Daffodils - yesterday was just plain old Google - appalling in my humble opinion.
Keep up the good work, and I'll keep going up in the barren wastelands of the North :-))
Cheers,
Mark.

my family and i all booked a days holiday,as we every year.we spent the day on a pub crawl in and around luton.i think we had a great day,

Dear Sir

My name is Brian Brown, my father Steve Brown is in contact you quite a lot.

I booked the day off work several weeks ago to celebrate St Georges day, (as if I need an excuse to celebrate !).

Myself and several friends met up at the Bank in Nottingham city centre, then we visited several other pubs in the city and with the exception of The Old Dog and Partrage and Langtry's there was no mention or effort (in comparison to St Patrick's day) of St George, but in The Dog and Partrage and Langtry's it was very busy and some English real ale available and lots St Georges flags and people dressed up in Saxon outfits.

A few members of our crowd were a bit worse for wear by the time we arrived at The Pheasant on Prospect Street in Radford, in one word Proud, very busy, BBQ, marquee and lots of St George flags etc, Bridget (the landlady) made a brilliant effort.

I am a big rugby union fan following Leicester Tigers who are one of the biggest teams in English rugby are in the final of the Heineken cup on 20th May at the home of English rugby at Twickenham to face another English club London Wasps, come on the Tigers !

Its nice to see a website like www.wearetheenglish.com keep up the good work.

Regards

Brian Brown

Well I hope all out there had as good an evening as we did.

We started with a hog roast meal, a boozy raffle and a stall selling plants and flowers for charity, then we were joined by the local Morris who danced with only one alcoholic break for a solid two hours. Noticing that it was dark we all trooped in for the pub quiz my partner Lynn and I had arranged. Every question was about England and we had cunningly inserted some English history about the country’s origins and our folk roots in order to instruct as well as entertain.
We had expected about ten teams to join in but ended up with many more on the night.
Our landlord had got the local press involved  as he and his wife had both dressed up for the occasion. All those present were snapped and told to look out for next week’s local paper.
I’m happy to say that it appears that St. George and England are both well and living on in Sussex. Next year we shall be covering two local pubs. The aim is to spread out and sow our message amongst the local people. We are literally aiming for a ‘grass roots’ appeal. Word of mouth is still important even in this ‘ techno’ age. – Mark

unfortunately i was at work.   why  dont we celibrate st georges day ? – Paul

Hello
Just thought I would tell you how we celebrated St Georges Day here in the Midlands.

We are English archers and love to shoot the traditional English Longbow in the traditional ways as they did back in Medieval times.

This is not re-enactment, thie is real Longbows with some bows well in excess of 100lbs needed to pull them. The arrows some also heavy, thick diameter, big feathers and heavy points, as the war arrows of old.

There were more than 100 archers turned up from the youngest 6 year old to the oldest on her 90th birthday.

A good many were wearing medieval clothing, many as crusaders with the George cross emblazoned on their clothing, and those that didn't dress up. sported flags, hats and badges.

All had an enjoyable day celebrating St Georges day, all be it a day early. Who knows if we get it as a bank holiday as it should be, we may be able to do it on the actual day next year.

Very best wishes, keep spreading the word.

Pete

On the Saturday before I took my daughter to a local shopping centres St Georges Day celebrations and handed out leaflets for The Steadfast Trust

On the 23rd I sported a rose button hole. In the evening I supported the local Morris side with the consumption of some good ol’ ale. Sang a few English ditties in the bar

Greetings

The medieval group I run was at Dartmouth Country Park near West Bromwich on Sunday putting on, with other Re-Enactment groups, various displays on medieval life including Archery, Combat, Living History Displays and falconry.
We had a great time and the large ground who had started with a St georges Day Parade enjoyed themselves too.
Pleanty of St Georges Flags on show!

We in the Norwich St George's Day Campaign, celebrated the 23rd April with great pride as we attended the Norwich Cathedral Evensong service dedicated to the festival of  St George. It was a wonderful service, attended by the Norwich School Choir and members of the Royal Society of St George and others, including members of the public.

Afterwards, I had arranged a dinner for 35 people at a nice hotel in Norwich and we all gathered there to enjoy our patriotic meal. The tables were draped in the Cross of St George flags and after the meal, we enjoyed a rendition of ''This Throne of Kings'' performed by the chef at the hotel who volunteered to read for us, dressed in his whites and all! He read it with passion and possibly has missed his vocation although his cooking was exceptional too!

During the meal, we enjoyed patriotic music and ended with Jerusalem (played twice in fact!) and at 10.45pm, we joined in the National toast to our glorious England and St George!
Heres to a bigger event next year!

Whether Blair and his PC cronies like it or not, we ARE the English and we are here to STAY, so is St George and his proud flag! We will rise above this suppression and denial of our rights and will continue to celebrate our day, even if we have to take a day off work to do so!

We English don't do white flags, only ones with glory and honour attached to them Mr Blair, so when YOU put up the English flag last year above No 10 to support the England team in the World Cup, that also means you MUST support the English people by giving them a Bank Holiday for their National day, St George's Day, which is rightfully ours!

Please sign my petition on Downing St's website and show Blair up for the hypocrite he truly is!  The PM has to reply to my comments by next January when the petition closes, that will be interesting!. Please pass the link on to others.  http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SupportStGeorge/

Thank you.

Living in the very politically uncorrect Harrow it seems virtually nothing
was done to celebrate the day.  My children were sent to school proudly
wearing their red roses, driven by their mother whose car was covered in
flags, from our house which even had the white dragon flag flying. My 6 year
old son came home at the end of the day to tell me that he was the ONLY
person in a school of over 300 kids that marked the day. Nothing was done at
his school to celebrate St George's Day at all!!

Funny though, on St Patricks Day they celebrated non stop for hours once
they had festooned the school in green, gold and white!!!!

Came to work fully expecting to drift over the local for a pint of Bombadier/Pedigree/Spitfire, but the best they could manage was London Pride.   Never mind - I suffered.... :)

Oh -I also signed the petition on the e-gov website to make St Georges day a public holiday. – Mark

St George

My St George's Day family event went well.

I raised £40 for my 'Leicester English Pensioners fellowship'
And the which myself and other organiser raised, payed for the Medieval re-enactment show that we got to come down on the day.

We advertised  the 'We Are The English' site by my other organiser buying one of your T shirts and wearing it on the day, and when asked "were did ya get ya T shirt mate?"
he would reply "'We Are The English . com"
The proceeds went into the pot for the selling of the T shirt and the rest was raffled off with plenty of other stuff.

I will now send you some photo's of the day.

Hi,
I'm an American, proud of my English ancestry - I hoisted my St. George
flag on the front porch in lieu of my American flag. Later that
evening, I went down to the bar with a friend, raised my Bass Ale and
loudly exclaimed "Waes hael!" (my toast was returned by a few
bewildered patrons but the strange looks were probably due to the fact
that I have no idea how to actually pronounce this greeting.)

Hello,

I hope you all had a great St. Georges Day!!

On Saturday I had my nails painted with St. George flags, they look great!

We had a St. Georges Day parade in Radcliffe on the Sunday, with members of
the local Legion, Cadets, Scouts, Brownies, you name it they were there, it
was a great turn out!

On Monday me & my partner looked very fetching in our England atire,
including flags, and needless to say we got a bit worse for wear, but
unfortunately still had to come to work on Tuesday!

ENGLAND FOREVER....Joanne, Radcliffe

I spent the day in London, I sported a St George Flag tiepin and a red rose.

I left a flag flying at my home.

To my total dismay and disgust in six hours in and around Westminster and Trafalgar Sq I saw only one other red rose.

I was delighted to be congratulated by a passer by ( the only one) for my effort, but I dismay at the apathy and disinterest shown by the majority

Hello, and hope you had a very happy St. George's Day too.  I am the Secretary of the Devonport, Tasmania Australia branch of the R. S. St. George, and my husband is the Treasurer.  We have been members of our local society for approx 12 years now, and I have been Sec for 10 of those.
On Monday night our small branch celebrated with a Dinner in our Garage.  Sound a bit strange?  Well the garage measures 25' x 17'6" and is fully carpeted.  It was decorated from top to bottom with all kinds of ENGLISH decorations especially home made flags of St. George.  Our Banner of the Society, The Armorial Bearings, picture of the Queen, etc etc.  Roast Beef, and chicken, pumpkin, roast spuds, carrots, peas, beans, Cauliflower with cheese topping and gravy (sorry No Yorkshire's) was followed by Lemon cheesecake with caramel sauce, Plum Pudding with brandy custard or Apple Pie and cream.  Tea Coffee and home made peppermint truffles.

Tassmania

We celebrated our 100th birthday on 21st October 2004, just 10 years younger than the London branch.  At no time during the past 102 1/2 years has this branch had to go into limbo.
We are so pleased to read of the new branches that are opening up, both in England and overseas.  My husband is originally from St. Helens, home of the best Rugby League side in England.  He emigrated here in 1955 to help start up the Tootals factory here in Devonport (on the Mersey River) I am a 6th generation Aussie, with both English & Scottish ancestors.  I lived in Launceston approx 100kms from here, before we were married.  Even though my husband has lived here for over 50 years and has Australian citizenship, he still supports England at ANY form of sport they are playing.
I attach a copy of our program for 2007 plus a photo of us at a previous St. George's Dinner.  I shall email you this years photos when they are downloaded.

Yours faithfully
Elizabeth & Derek Page.

Leicester

Here are pics of Leicester City, around the St Nicholas Circle area, on the outskirts of the City centre's High Street.

These pics were taken on the 23rd of April 2007.....
yes...St GEORGE'S DAY!

Leicester City Council raised just the one flag over the Town Hall.

as you can see Leicester City Council feels that the Sikh Vaisakhi celebrations should totally over-shadow England's Patron Saints day here in England.

Cultural cleansing of the English?
