Hand Carved Interlaced
Dogs Wooden Wall Decoration
The
Anglo-Saxons loved to intertwine dragons, dogs, wolves and
other symbolic and mythical animals in their decoration. The
interlaced dog design is typical of early English artwork
dating from the late 5th century up to the 11th century. Sculpted
crosses and ivories, manuscript painting, decorated weaponry,
and gold and enamel jewellery survive, demonstrating a love
of intricate, interwoven designs. This is distinctly English
as opposed to Celtic or European.
